What Pharmacy Leaders Are Focusing on Now: Key Takeaways from Becker’s Spring CPO Summit

May 6, 2026

The Becker’s Spring Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) Summit in Chicago brought together pharmacy leaders from across the country for two days of candid conversations about what health systems are thinking about now, and where pharmacy is heading.

A few themes repeatedly surfaced, including the growing role of technology (especially AI) and an increased focus on preserving patient access through programs like 340B. In this blog, we break down each of these important topics and what they mean for Covered Entities.

One of the most consistent threads throughout the conference is the role technology is playing in shaping pharmacy operations. We heard from Covered Entities about how they are using AI and advanced analytics in real, practical ways, from operational efficiency to decision support.

Rather than “future-state” use cases, conversations focused on how technology can help pharmacy teams navigate complexity right now, with an emphasis on the growing need for flexible reporting and analytics to help health systems adapt purchasing strategies for long-term sustainability.

As pharmacy operations face changing compliance requirements and fluctuating drug pricing, the call for technology to do more than aggregate information was clear. From managing claims volume, improving audit transparency, and supporting more informed decision-making across the supply chain, pharmacy leaders are looking for timely insights that don’t add additional administration burden.

Verity Solutions had the opportunity to participate in the panel “The 340B Crossroads: Policy, Compliance, and Hospital Impact,” which brought together a group of health system leaders to discuss the current 340B landscape.

One theme that emerged was how changes in the evolving pharmacy landscape are highlighting opportunities to strengthen access to care for vulnerable patient populations. Health systems are increasingly considering expanded services, like delivery, mail order, and extended hours, to support access to medications and better meet patients where they are.

Throughout the discussion, panelists emphasized that the future of 340B will depend not only on compliance, but on operational confidence to respond to dynamic requirements without disrupting care. In this environment, visibility means being able to explain how programs are functioning, show how savings are being used, and clearly articulate how decisions are made with relevant, auditable data.

At Verity, we view this as a chance and a challenge for greater transparency and flexibility across pharmacy operations. Our focus is on helping health systems maintain stable 340B operations by providing the tools to support informed decision-making, so leaders can protect access today while remaining prepared for what comes tomorrow.

If there was one unifying message from Becker’s Spring CPO Summit, it’s that pharmacy leaders are confronted with increasingly complex care delivery systems. At the same time, they are also deeply engaged and collaborating on solutions that support long-term operational sustainability and patient care.

As conversations continue beyond Chicago, Verity Solutions is focused on improving transparency through advanced technologies to foster the next chapter of health system pharmacy.
